The start of the 2016 edition of the Total 24 Hours of Spa is just a month away and teams are starting their final preparations for the blue riband event of the Blancpain GT Series and Intercontinental GT Challenge. On July 5th they will get the opportunity to test their machinery on the legendary Ardennes track, during the Official Test Day of the Total 24 Hours of Spa.
Almost 70 cars will lap the Spa-Francorchamps circuit during the eight hours of scheduled track time. Not only will the regular competitors of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup be present, but also some additional teams and drivers eager to compete in the greatest GT race in the motorsport universe.
It should not come as a surprise then that some of the squads have brought a whole armada to the Belgian Ardennes. Kessel Racing adds another Ferrari 488 to bring their total to four, local favourite Belgian Audi Club Team WRT is present with five Audi R8 LMS but it is AF Corse that takes the crown. The Italian squad brings no fewer than nine Ferrari to Spa: four 458 Italia GT3 and five of the new and highly competitive 488 GT3.
Keep an eye out for newcomer Easy Race (Ferrari 488) as well, and Emil Frey Racing will be bringing not one but two Jaguars to Spa. At the wheel of the second ‘Cat’ will be none other than defending champion Markus Palttala, in his first appearance in this year’s Blancpain GT Series.
Add to that some regular teams from the British GT Championship preparing their next event in Spa and you will agree that the Official Test Day is an excellent opportunity to review the troops for the upcoming Total 24 Hours of Spa. The Official Test Day will see track action from 9.00 to 12.00, and from 13.00 to 18.00. Entrance for the public is absolutely free.
