The Australian GP that will take place this weekend and open the 2015 Formula 1 season will see the debut in the pinnacle of motorsports of Carlos Sainz jr (Toro Rosso) and Roberto Merhi (Manor). This is, of course, wonderful news for Spanish motorsports and fans, but also a great satisfaction for the entire Euroformula Open community as it sees two of its alumni reaching the summit of motorsports. Both made their debut in F.3 in our series.

Roberto Merhi made a first appearance in the then Spanish F.3 Championship in 2006 and came back again in 2007 and in 2008. That last year he clinched two race wins for the TEC Auto team.

Carlos Sainz made his F.3 debut in the then European F.3 Open in 2014, taking part in some events with Emilio De Villota Motorsport and conquering one podium.

Jesús Pareja, CEO of GT Sport, commented: “As Spaniards, we are of course very proud to see two great talents such as Carlos and Roberto achieving their F.1 dream. Both made their very first steps in F.3 in our series, before taking off to a very successful career in the various ladders of the formulae pyramid, and it is a great joy to see where they are today. We extend them our most heartfelt wishes for the future and all of us at GT Sport will be watching the Melbourne GP on Sunday as committed fans! “
