Hugo Chevalier on pole at Le Castellet!
The seventh and last round of the French F4 Championship began on Friday 13th October on the Paul Ricard circuit with free practice. It continued today, 14th October, with qualifying in which Hugo Chevalier came out on top: he will start races 1 and 3 on pole!
The young drivers in the French F4 Championship took to the track in the late morning on the Paul Ricard circuit in dry conditions. The times continued to come down until near the end of the session when they stabilised among the front-runners. Those set in qualifying were much faster than in free practice the previous day.
Hugo Chevalier clinched pole halfway through the session and was never under threat from his rivals. Victor Martins was second quickest only one-tenth-of-a-second behind Chevalier. A little further back Florian Venturi set the third-best time while Arthur Rougier got back among the front-runners with fourth place. While the title battle boils down to a duel between Martins and Rougier, Venturi will be trying to hold on to third overall.
Charles Milesi and Pierre-Alexandre Jean share the third row for race 1 this afternoon, while for race 3 Milesi will share it with Ugo de Wilde from Belgium. Jean-Baptiste Mela is not far behind in eighth place. The Corsican driver hopes to make a good start and will try to fight his way up the time sheets and score more points in the championship.
Pierre-Louis Chovet and Thomas Drouet fill ninth and tenth places, a good performance in keeping with what they achieved in free practice the previous day. Christian Muñoz and Marvin Klein who were quick at the start of qualifying were unable to improve their times. The two drivers should try and stack the odds in their favour as they are still fighting for places in the first half of the field. Stuart White was unlucky this morning as his car suffered a technical issue so the South African was unable to show his speed. Amaury Cordeel finished last.
In compliance with the FFSA Academy regulations, the grid positions for each of the three races during the weekend will be allocated as follows:
– Race 1: according to the second-fastest time of each driver in the qualifying session,
– Race 2: according to the classification of race 1 with the first 10 in reverse order,
– Race 3: according to the fastest time of each driver in the qualifying session.
