Jack in the Box: New year, a new hope

Yesterday I packed away our fake Christmas Tree. Digging up a new one every year for 30 days of use then chucking it away is hardly ‘Formula E’. As I wrestled the PVC branches back into their implausibly sized box, I wondered what the new year would bring, and what I’d like to see it bring for Formula E.

I’m sure that most of us have ballooned to the weight of a NEXTEV TCR powertrain over the festive season, and while it was the twin turkey system I utilised on Christmas Day that’s caused my issues, it’s the twin motor system that has really hurt NEXTEV in season two. As defending champion, I’d love to see Nelson Piquet back fighting at the front, but it will take more than brisk morning runs and less red wine to solve the problem. Nevertheless, the team are improving and Piquet was sixth quickest in the post-Punta test.

Sadly, due to the migrant crisis that is currently facing Europe, we won’t be racing at the wonderfully historic Tempelhof Airport in Berlin this year. But all the fencing and infrastructure is just there waiting to go, so surely all we have to do is put it somewhere else? I’ve taken the liberty of designing a circuit, a wonderful 4.88km track, with a long straight, fast corners, overtaking opportunities and two bridges! From the Tiergarten Park, over the River Spree, in front of the Reichstag and through the final corner by the Brandenburg Gate. It will be called the Jack Nicholls Berlin ePrix. Alejandro, you know where to find me. I think?
