Kanamaru on top on first day

The Japanese racer, who claimed a double-podium finish for Emilio de Villota Motorsport at Paul Ricard, has set the fastest time ahead of Tereschenko (Campos Racing), Pulcini (DAV Racing), Stern (Team West-Tec) and Menchaca (Campos Racing)

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has held the opening day of the Winter Series with 19 drivers joining this final pre-season test. Yu Kanamaru (Emilio de Villota Motorsport) has posted the fastest time at the end of the day by clocking a time of 1:39.639. The fourth test session was the fastest one and when almost all of the drivers clocked their quickest lap times, with Russia´s Konstantin Tereschenko (Campos Racing) only 22 thousandths off Kanamaru´s time to finish second. Leonardo Pulcini (DAV Racing) and Yarin Stern (Team West-Tec) set times within one tenth of the fastest, 3rd and 4th respectively. Diego Menchaca (Campos Racing) has rounded off the top-5 today.

At RP Motorsport Vítor Rodrigues Baptista was his best driver on the timesheets with 6th place, ahead of Tanart Sathienthirakul (Team West-Tec), John Simonyan (MKTG), Edi Haxhiu (Corbetta Competizioni) and Igor Walilko (RP Motorsport). William Barbosa (BVM Racing), 11th in the cumulative rankings, took first place in the third test session.

It is worth mentioning that Michael Dörrbecker made his comeback with Emilio de Villota Motorsport, after his debut in Jerez. Besides, another promising young driver from Spain, Javier Cobián, debuted in the series with BVM Racing. Cobián, awarded by the Banco Santander with its racing scholarship, finished second in the CIK FIA Academy Trophy in 2012. Another Spaniard, Marc González, will test for Emilio de Villota Motorsport tomorrow.
