Per il secondo appuntamento stagionale della Blancpain GT Series e della GT Sports Club, team e piloti si sono dati appuntamento nella patria del motorsport: l’Inghilterra. Gareggiare qui ha da sempre un sapore particolare. Passione e competenza vanno di pari passo, e sui vari tracciati inglesi non è raro vedere file di appassionati, muniti di taccuini, libri e fotografie, attendere con pazienza il proprio turno per avere l’autografo da un pilota, chiunque egli sia: un famoso “ex-professionista” oppure un tranquillo gentlemen che corre per divertimento. Questo è sicuramente un aspetto importante per chi in circuito ci va per correre o per lavorare. L’entusiasmo, la competenza e la passione sono tutti fattori che spingono a dare sempre il massimo sia in pista sia in un trafficatissimo box.
LE ORIGINI. Brands Hatch è uno dei cuori pulsanti della passione degli inglesi per il motorsport. Il nome del circuito deriva da una forma arcaica “de Brondehach” che significa letteralmente “ingresso alla foresta”. Si tratta di un nome che descrive fedelmente la zona in cui sorge il tracciato, immerso in un bellissimo bosco nella località di Swanley, borgo della contea del Kent a un’ora da Londra. Dei numerosi tracciati inglesi che hanno contribuito a scrivere la storia del motorsport internazionale, Brands Hatch è il più spettacolare, e anche il più tecnico, con una serie di tratti veloci, alternati da saliscendi che lo rendono unico per difficoltà, specialmente in condizioni di pista bagnata. Caratteristica molto apprezzata dai piloti, tant’è che quando vengono divulgati i calendari dei campionati il nome di questo circuito britannico è atteso con particolare passione.
KESSEL RACING AL TOP ANCHE IN INGHILTERRA. A Brands Hatch Kessel Racing è stato impegnato in due distinti campionati: nella Blancpain GT Sprint Series e nella GT Sports Club. Michael Broniszewski e Giacomo Piccini, vincitori delle gare d’apertura disputate a Misano Adriatico a inizio aprile, hanno ottenuto la seconda posizione nella classe PRO-AM nella Qualifying Race, giungendo alle spalle della Mercedes AMG GT3 del Team Akka. All’ottima performance della mattinata ha fatto seguito una prestazione maiuscola nella Main Race, con un nuovo successo tra i PRO-AM che rafforza la loro leadership nella classifica di campionato.
VITTORIE A RIPETIZIONE ANCHE IN GT SPORTS CLUB. Questo fine settimana positivo ha avuto le sue conferme per Kessel Racing anche nella GT Sports Club. Nella Qualifying Race disputata in mattinata, è stato ancora Broniszewski protagonista assoluto con la Ferrari 458 GTE: il pilota polacco si è assicurato il successo davanti alla Ferrari 458 GT3 di AF Corse con Van Glabeke e alla BMW M6 GT3 di Ojjeh. Alexis De Bernardi ha chiuso in sesta posizione, Earle in decima, davanti a Price: Earle e Price nella classifica riservata agli IRON si classificano in seconda e terza posizione, conquistando il podio alle spalle dell’Audi R8 LMS di Brunstedt. Ancora sul gradino più alto Broniszewski al termine della Main Race davanti alla BMW GT3 di Ojjeh e alla 458 GT3 di Van Glabeke. In quarta posizione a un soffio dal podio De Bernardi, mentre Earle settimo assoluto si è aggiudicato il successo nella IRON CUP. Price giunto undicesimo assoluto ha conquistato il terzo gradino del podio della IRON CUP. Il prossimo appuntamento con Kessel Racing è per la settimana prossima con la seconda prova della Blancpain Endurance Series, mentre Kessel Classic sarà di scena a Montecarlo per la decima edizione del Gran Premio di F.1 riservato alle vetture storiche.
RONNIE KESSEL (Team Principal): “È stato un fine settimana intenso, che ci ha regalato delle grandissime soddisfazioni con i successi a ripetizione nelle varie categorie. Ma non avremo neppure il tempo di assaporare questi successi perché tra qualche giorno saremo di nuovo di scena qui in Inghilterra sul tracciato di Silverstone, dove si disputerà la seconda prova della Blancpain Endurance Series, che ci ha visto vincere a Monza solo qualche settimana fa. Sarà un’importante occasione per confermarci nei “PRO-AM” e per cercare il riscatto tra i Gentlemen, dove a Monza non siamo stati proprio fortunati. Contemporaneamente saremo impegnati anche a Montecarlo con la nostra Ensign-Ford nel Gran Premio Storico. Una competizione nuova in un ambiente dal fascino unico. Sarà un altro fine settimana ricco di emozioni, da vivere come sempre con grande passione e tanto impegno”.
KESSEL RACING HAS GREAT SUCCESS AT BRANDS HATCH.
For the second round of the Blancpain GT Series and the GT Sports Club, teams and drivers gathered in the country of the home of motorsport, Britain. Racing here has always been highly special. Passion and expertise go hand in hand, and on the various British tracks it is not uncommon to see queues of fans with notebooks, photographs and books at hand waiting patiently for their turn to get an autograph from a driver, be they a famous ex-professional or a quiet gentleman who races for fun. This is without doubt an important aspect for those who race at the track or who work there. Enthusiasm, skill and passion are all elements that always seek to offer the best, both on track and in a bustling box.
ORIGINS. Brands Hatch is certainly at the heart of English people’s passion for motorsport. The name of the circuit comes from the archaic form “de Brondehach” which literally means entrance to the forest. It is without question a name that accurately describes the area surrounding the track, nestled in a beautiful forest in the town of Swanley in the county of Kent, one hour away from London. Of the many British motor racing circuits that have contributed to the writing of the history of international motorsport, Brands Hatch is certainly the most spectacular, and also the most technical, with its series of fast and off-camber sections and elevation changes that make it uniquely difficult, especially in wet conditions. This is a feature that drivers always appreciate, so much so that when the calendars of the various championships are published everyone eagerly looks out for the name of this British circuit.
KESSEL RACING ALSO AT THE TOP IN BRITAIN. Last weekend Kessel Racing took part in two different championships at Brands Hatch: in the Blancpain GT Sprint Series and the GT Sports Club. Michael Broniszewski and Giacomo Piccini, winners of the opening races held at Misano Adriatico in early April, also made a name for themselves at Brands Hatch, finishing second in the Qualifying Race in the PRO-AM class right behind Team Akka’s Mercedes AMG GT3. The excellent morning’s performance was repeated in the Main Race, with a great victory in the PRO-AM class that extends their lead in the championship.
VICTORIES GALORE IN GT SPORTS CLUB TOO. The cracking weekend was topped off by Kessel Racing’s success in the GT Sports Club. In the morning Qualifying Race it was Broniszewski who put his Ferrari 458 GTE on pole. The Polish driver secured his position in front of AF Corse’s Ferrari 458 GT3, driven by Van Glabeke, and Ojjeh’s BMW M6 GT3. Alexis De Bernardi finished in sixth position and Earle in tenth, ahead of Price. Earle and Price came second and third respectively in the Iron Cup, stepping onto the podium behind the Audi R8 LMS of Brunstedt. Broniszewski secured the top step in the Main Race in front of Ojjeh’s BMW GT3 and Van Glabeke’s 458 GT3. Within a whisker of the podium was De Bernardi in fourth position, while Earle was seventh overall and won the Iron Cup. Price came eleventh overall and took third place in the Iron Cup. The next race for Kessel Racing is next week with the second round of the Blancpain Endurance Series, while Kessel Classic will be staged in Monte Carlo for the tenth edition of the F.1 Grand Prix for classic cars.
RONNIE KESSEL (Team Principal): “It was an intense weekend that gave us great satisfaction with fantastic results in the various categories. But we won’t even have time to savour these victories because in a few days we will be back here in England at Silverstone, where the second round of the Blancpain Endurance Series will take place, in which we won at Monza just a few weeks ago. It will be a great opportunity to prove ourselves in the PRO-AM class and to seek redemption in the Gentlemen where we were really unlucky at Monza. At the same time we will also be very busy in Monte Carlo with our Ensign-Ford in the Historic Grand Prix. It’s a new competition in uniquely delightful surroundings. It will once again be a really passionate and hard-working weekend, full of emotions”.
