Unfortunately my review will not be very long this time…but let’s start from the very beginning:
From the first free practice on Friday onwards it was clear, that our colleagues from BMW with their performance weight advantage were looking very strong this weekend. Qualifying on Saturday unfortunately proofed that and I ended up 16th as 4th best Audi (0.5sec off pole position).
My start into race 1 was very good and I gained already 2-3 places when I was at the apex of the first corner. Exactly at that moment though, I got a big hit on my left rear and spun around, dropping to the very back of the field. I then tried to continue for a few laps, but the damage on my Audi RS5 DTM was too severe and I had to retire.
On Sunday, things started off even worse: I struggled a bit with the balance on the different track conditions (had rained over night) and then also got a yellow flag on during my second stint. As a result, I had to line up 21st on the gird (again only 0.6 off pole position). After another good start, I went for outside this time to try and make through the very tight first corner of Oschersleben safely. I couldn’t see though that a car in the midfield (Molina) got spun around and suddenly Auer on my left pulled hardly to the right without any warning (to avoid Molinas car), hit and pushed me off into the gravel bed. Unbelievably, my race again was over after the first corner…
A very tough and character building weekend in the books and our focus is fully on Nürburgring! There, my Audi RS5 DTM will get rid of 10kg performance weight and I’m extremely motivated to get back into the fight for points!
Thanks a lot for your support, yours
