Dans le match pour la victoire dès le tout début de ce 24e Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique, les jumeaux Belges, Philippe et Antoine CORNET DE WAYS RUART (Porsche 911 N° 45), se sont installés en tête de la course à l’issue de la Spéciale de Régularité N° 13 mardi matin… pour finalement ne plus la quitter, après notamment une Etape Finale rondement menée et succèdent ainsi à Henrik BJERREGAARD et Jaromir SVEC, derniers vainqueurs en date sur Ford Escort RS2000 MkII.

The Belgian twins Philippe and Antoine CORNET DE WAYS RUART (Porsche 911 N° 45) were in the fight for the victory from the beginning of the 24th Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique. They took the lead at the end of the Regularity Stage N° 13 on Tuesday morning, and did not relinquish it after a well-run final leg, succeeding to Henrik BJERREGAARD and Jaromir SVEC, the previous and latest winners (Ford Escort RS2000 MkII)

Au menu de cette dernière nuit, l’entrée en matière passe par célèbre Col de Turini avec le chrono de « Sospel – La-Bollène-Vésubie / SR 16 / 22h00 / 30,96 km », remporté respectivement par la Lancia Fulvia HF 1.3 N° 268 des Norvégiens (Kenneth SIMONSEN / Otto KRISTENSEN) et la Lancia Beta Coupé 1800 N° 23 des Italiens (Maurizio AIOLFI / Carlo MERENDA) ex-aequo.
En guise de plat de résistance enfin, les Cols de Porte et Saint-Roch avec la spéciale de « Loda – Coaraze / SR 17 / 23h10 / 22,43 km », décrochée par la Ford Escort MkI N° 171 de l’équipage Grec Petros VASILOPOULOS / Dimitrios STATHAKOS

On the menu of this last night, the “starter” was the famous Col de Turini with the stage “Sospel – La-Bollène-Vésubie / SR 16 / 22h00 / 30,96 km” won respectively by the Lancia Fulvia HF 1.3 N° 268 of the Norwegians (Kenneth SIMONSEN / Otto KRISTENSEN) and the Lancia Beta Coupé 1800 N° 23 of the Italians (Maurizio AIOLFI / Carlo MERENDA) ex-aequo.
Finally, the “main course” was the Porte and Saint-Roch passes with the special stage of “Loda – Coaraze / SR 17 / 23h10 / 22,43 km” won by the Ford Escort MkI N° 171 of the Greek team Petros VASILOPOULOS / Dimitrios STATHAKOS.
A l’arrivée sur le Port Hercule de Monaco au petit matin, les jumeaux belges ne pouvaient pas s’empêcher de savourer une victoire grandement méritée. « C’est un grand honneur pour nous ! », s’enthousiasme Philippe le pilote. Et à son copilote de frère de renchérir : « La complicité entre nous a parfaitement bien fonctionné. Remporter ce Rallye mythique est un pur bonheur… ».
Pour les deux frangins, cette édition sans neige n’a pourtant pas été exempte de pièges, avec notamment beaucoup de verglas dans les spéciales du matin ! « Nous nous en sommes bien sortis et avons été le plus possible consistants, avec une voiture qui a été parfaite. Les deux dernières spéciales de nuit ont été très intenses et nous sommes vraiment très heureux d’inscrire notre nom au palmarès de cette fantastique épreuve. Un podium aurait déjà été une très belle récompense mais alors là , cette victoire est un pur bonheur ! »
On arrival at the Hercule harbour in Monaco in the early hours of the morning, the Belgian twins savored a well-deserved victory. “It’s a great honour for us”, Philippe the driver enthused. And his co-driver of brother added: “The complicity between us worked perfectly well. Winning this legendary rally is a pure happiness…”.
For the two brothers, this snow-free edition was not without its pitfalls, with notably a lot of ice in the morning stages! “We did well and were as consistent as possible, with a car that was perfect. The last two night stages were very intense and we are really happy to put our name on the list of winners of this fantastic event. A podium finish would have been a great reward, but this victory is pure happiness!”.
205 voitures ont donc rejoint l’arrivée de cette 24e édition du Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique… tous ont désormais rendez-vous pour la traditionnelle Soirée de Gala et de Remise des Prix organisée ce soir dans la Salle des Etoiles du Monte-Carlo Sporting Club…
