Austria´s racing track, located near Spielberg, will host Round 5 of the Euroformula Open from tomorrow. Nineteen drivers, from 13 different countries, will take part in the Austrian venue, the last one before summer break. Parth Ghorpade, from India, makes his debut in the series with DAV Racing
The Euroformula Open will open a new chapter in its already long history in the European motorsport arena by visiting Austria´s Red Bull Ring track. The circuit was originally built in 1969 and, at the time, known as Österreichring. The track is situated in a unique natural setting in the Styrian mountains. The circuit has undergone a major refurbishment in 1996 and, back in 2008, the redesigned track layout was built and renamed the Red Bull Ring. The Austrian Grand Prix was held only two weeks ago.
There are nineteen cars on the entry list with a major novelty, the Dallara F312 entered by DAV Racing and to be driven by India´s newcomer Parth Ghorpade. RP Motorsport and Campos Racing will be the most numerous teams once again, with five and four cars respectively. The team led by former Formula 1 driver Adrián Campos leads the drivers´ classification with Russia´s Konstantin Teresxhenko, on 155 points. His teammates shall we three promising youngsters, Mexican Diego Menchaca, Brazilian Henrique Baptista and Kuwaiti Ahmad al Ghanem. At RP Motorsport Vitor Baptista, from Brazil, is spearheading Italian team´s championship-winning efforts, as he lies second only eight points behind Tereschenko. Guatemala´s Andrés Saravia, Polish duo of Igor Walilko and Antoni Ptak and Damiano Fioravanti will be behind the wheel of the remaining cars of RP Motorsport.
Yu Kanamaru, after taking his maiden race win in the series at Silverstone last month, represents one of the strongest driver-team combinations with his Emilio de Villota Motorsport Dallara. At Emilio de Villota´s team he will be joined by José Manuel Vilalta, another Aztec driver.
Both Motul Team West-Tec drivers, Tanart Sathienthirakul and Yarin Stern, sit fifth and sixth overall and they both may have a slight advantage in Austria as the British squad already has previous experience at Red Bull Ring.
Apart from RP Motorsport, three other teams defend the tricolore colors. BVM Racing, with Alessio Rovera – fourth-placed overall- and William Barbosa, Corbetta Competizioni, with the yellow car driven by Ukraine´s Alexey Chuklin, and DAV Racing, entering two Dallaras for Leonardo Pulcini and the aforementioned Ghorpade. Parth becomes first Indian driver in the series and with experience in the Formula Renault series, Ghorpade has already proven his speed.
The Euroformula Open will be joined at Red Bull Ring by other prestigious series: International GT Open, SEAT León Eurocup, Radical European Masters and Euro Series.
