Andretti driver Jean-Eric Vergne will be seeking a change in fortune at the Miami ePrix following a number of incidents that prevented him from claiming potential podium finishes.
The two-time winner of FanBoost clinched pole position on his first appearance in Punta del Este and was battling for the lead before a suspension issue caused him to retired in the closing stages. It was a slightly different story in Buenos Aires where cooling problems cost Vergne a position in the top-three.
Talking about FanBoost, the interactive initiative which sees three drivers with the most votes receive a one five-second ‘power boost’ per car, Vergne said: “FanBoost is great first of all for the fans, it’s a great opportunity for them to show the support for a driver.
“For the drivers, winning a race using FanBoost gives power to the fans and it would make me really proud to give something back for the number of votes cast. Thank you to the fans for their votes so far and hopefully we can have the same opportunity again in Miami.”
The ex-Toro Rosso driver also has a dual role with Ferrari as the test and development driver but confirmed he will be racing in Miami, one of two home races for the Andretti team.
“I think it will be amazing,” he said. “First of all racing in America is something very special and it’s going to be kind of a home race. To win in Miami for Andretti would be a fantastic achievement and I’m rooting for this result.”
Vergne believes the event in Miami will be a fantastic occasion for Formula E. He said: “I haven’t really seen the track but I know exactly where the track will be…I’ve been to Miami already once before. I’m sure the event in downtown Miami will be an awesome spectacle both as a driver and for the fans!”
